![](.\ComingEvents20pct.jpg) | As of early 2024 the plan is to return to a monthly 710 TOPICS Series. As before it will be held in the Redwood Commons Theater, probably early afternoon. It will be restricted to one hour duration and a simpler format. |
These Lectures are about the evolution of The Cloud. The 4th lecture made use of videos found on YouTube, links are in the PDF. |

During the pandemic lock-down the club used ZOOM conferencing to present and discuss various items. Links to the referenced videos are listed here.
I have a nebulous connection to the next item. It is about a video which is too good to not include here.
It demonstrates what can be done by integrating multiple systems in the cloud. I met
Jim Onalfo in 1976 when he was a manager at General Foods at their headquarters in Whiet Plains, NY. I was with the Infonet Division
of Computer Sciences Corporation at the time. Infonet provided an international data communications netowork and timesharing services
which used Univac 1108 mainframes. The network was based upon X.25 protocols - this was about 20 years prior to the Internet.
I was part of a team which converted the major interactive applications used by product managers.
I subsequently became the manager of a branch dedicated to supporting GF worldwide. About 15 years later Phillip Morris acquired GF and then KRAFT.
Jim became the CIO of the combined operations, and eventually retired. He came out of retirement to become CIO at Stanley Works
(Stanley Tools), retired a second time, and then came out of retirement again to become a Deputy Police Commisioner and CIO during Bloombergs administration..
He served there for about 10 years. This is a video about his first major project.
Jim is now gone, General Foods was broken up, although many of their brands still exist. COmputer Sciences Corporation (CSC) merged with what wes left of Elecronic Data Systems (EDS) after GM, DELL and HP owned them, Infonet got out of the timesharing services market, it took 17 years for microcomputers to pull the plug on that industry. The X.25 data communications network still exists, in parallel with the Internet. It is now a global offering of BT (British Telecomm) and is used primarilyfor financial transfers between banks.
